There are so many different newsgroups available that it can seem difficult to know which are the best for the sort of files that you're interested in. As a rough guide, many of the most popular binary groups are within
alt.binaries, e.g. alt.binaries.movies.

Many groups also have a corresponding repost group, where files are posted again for those who missed them the first time round. Normally these groups are given a .repost suffix, e.g.
